Not a comprehensive granular guidebook in the Lonely Planet style but it was helpful for an independent visit---we rented cars and stayed mostly in self-catering accommodations. Also would recommend working through the Seychelles tourist web site (http://www.seychelles.travel/) for other travel ideas. The map that comes with the book is excellent. I found that I referred to it equally as the somewhat similar Marco Polo series guide---they both complement each other well, but neither is a guidebook of enormous depth. Both books spend a bit too much effort listing and discussing hotels, when most visitors decide before they arrive with other independent information where to stay. Also the coverage of many of the remote islands that are only visited by a tiny fraction of visitors is about right for the Globetrotter guide, but takes up about a fifth of the Marco Polo guide.

A wonderful little book, that goes into the depth of the country, not just concentrating on the tourist side of it. So much information is available on the net about when things open and close in the main town of Victoria. I wanted to go a little deeper and this book helped me to delve into not just the description of now, but also of how it was - little historical anecdotes, etc. Loved the way of writing and loved the book. Hence the five stars!!

This is a book that may interest you AFTER your visit to Seychelles, as it has lots of curious but not vey useful information. As an example, of the three pages dedicated to the Vallee du Mai, the book spends one full page to tell the story of a British general from then 1880s, who thought that the amazing threes of this island could prove Darwin wrong. however, not a line about when the park is open, better hours to visit, entrance fees... This seems to be the pattern across the book, the author is more interested in telling stories than in helping turists

This book gave me a good general impression about the Seychelles before and during my trip. It doesn't describe themes deeply. It's ok for a reference guide, but won't tell you about prices, tips, restaurants, hotels. However, the map is very useful. I'd suggest Lonely Planet series for deeper perspective.
