I am a new RN and often found myself having to reread various assessment processes to really grasp the “need to know” information and what signs and symptoms to look for while working in the clinical setting. I have a number of note cards, NCLEX study materials, and text books from school, but I found Fast Facts for the Triage Nurse to have the best layout of content. All of the need to know information for assessments and communication was presented in a way that made me have many “aha!” moments, and it finally clicked.It also helped me prep for nursing positions I interviewed for, without even knowing it. During an interview, I was asked scenario questions and I was able to answer them more succinctly because I reflected on scenarios presented in the book. I recommend this resource for any and all nursing students & nurses working directly with patients.Great Fast Facts, Tips, and Advice throughout the read. Definitely a nursing MUST HAVE!

Not what I expected for a triage book.

This is such a great reference for nurses/nursing students who are interested in becoming a triage nurse or even a current triage nurse looking for helpful tips and tricks. This guide is well organized, very concise, and each chapter begins with a brief synopsis of the topics addressed within that section.All of the topics addressed within this reference guide are relevant and important to the role of a triage nurse and includes helpful tips, focused assessment guidelines, how to avoid common mistakes, and how to get into the right mindset to successfully achieve the role of a triage nurse. It also provides advice on the most appropriate, respectful, and compassionate way to address special populations, such as spousal abuse and human trafficking victims. This guide even breaks down the specific questions, assessments, and interventions necessary for the most common medical emergencies.You’re basically getting a compilation of helpful advice/expertise from an assortment of experienced, educated, and respected nurses into a well-constructed compendium.I highly recommend that anyone even considering becoming a triage nurse should get this book because a lot of the tips can be practiced and applied prior to becoming a triage nurse, which would not only make you a better job candidate, but contribute to your own acumen of triage nursing. I purchased the first edition of this title and found it so indispensable, I pre-ordered the second edition from the publisher as soon as I saw it was available. The second addition includes extra chapters germane to current ED practice and FREE CEU! The format is easy to follow and the content concise and relevant without being overly wordy. It has great suggestions/content related to triage competency and performance improvement. My new triage nurses appreciate the red flag findings and worst case scenarios to help them with their critical thinking skills but make no mistake, this is an incredible resource for the experienced triage nurse and nurse educators responsible for orientation and competency validations.

This Fast Facts book for triage nursing is composed of seven extremely informative, smooth-flowing parts. Being a newly graduated RN, I immediately purchased this book knowing that it would be a great reference to have around. This book has given me confidence in facing the uncertainty that comes along with triaging. It is a true guide of how to accurately assess patient presentations and deliver quality patient care. The following are some of the things that I really enjoyed about the book…• It is broken down into bullet points (which, obviously, I love!!)• It cuts out unnecessary weeds, or fillers, to provide solely useful, hearty information• It provides helpful tips from multiple nurses that give personal insight to what has been beneficial for themOne of my favorite, most referred to, parts of the book is Part V, “’Red Flag’ Patient Presentations”.
