Congratulations to Miles Cameron. Once more he proves his skills and he does so like it is very easy. No blank awkward chapters, no filler pages in all his books, it is always exciting and clever, full of action and never boring.

What the hell am I going to do with myself until the next book comes out? Master Cameron at his best. Buy the book and prepare for some excellent story telling! The horror of not having the next book is too much!

Yet again Miles/Christian Cameron delivers an intriguing and captivating read.I love the world building, the character creations and the story telling.This and other series by Mr. Cameron is highly recommended.

I almost never rate a book, but this great book deserves one. I can't wait until the next one and I highly recomend the whole series.

Miles blessed me with an advance copy (during a family illness). This book is epic. I say that as one who mostly reads historical fiction or history. Miles blends all his hard earned knowledge in this 2nd book of 3 to wonderful fantasy story that is grounded just enough in our world. The book picks up where the 1st left off on the edge of battle. Our hero grows in stature and knowledge and becomes a leader. The threat from the east becomes bigger. An epic large battle is joined. Miles does an amazing job as he always does with battle scenes but now he introduces magic to the field. His previous experience of electronic warfare as a US Navy Aviator shows in how he portrays magic on the fictional battlefield. Personally I love his female characters and they shine and have story lines that are complex. New characters join the large cast. Without giving anything away, this book covers a lot of ground but never loses focus. Miles always seamed to make the choice of story direction I wanted as the reader. When things were hard back in Nov this story took my mind off things. Can't wait for book 3. Ill also be buying a softcover copy for my library. Prepare to loose sleep.

Too often the second work in a trilogy is somewhat lackluster - too safe, too staid, too liminal. The Dark Forge is anything but, as Cameron does what he does best: suck you into a world of creaking harnesses, beloved steads, worn down soldiers, and spectacular magics.The world feels ancient and love, filled with color and detail and a sense of wearing that is hard to counterfeit. The cast of characters are bent but not broken, optimism struggling against the cruelty of war and death, the needs of the moment weighed against the stain of the soul. Never does Cameron revel in darkness for its own shake, but shows us the path through hell as a modern Dante - one can drive the harrowing with their humanity intact. This refusal to indulge in the worst aspects of humanity, while recognizes how the light within a soul can be become tattered, torn, and waver on the edge of darkness,, sets the series apart from much of contemporary fantasy.

Fast paced. Rich in history and beautifully balanced with fiction. A good yarn as you would expect from such a craftsman

Our Hero continues to make friends, inrease his power and fall in love. Great depictions of battles, magical warfare and the humanity of struggle. Awesome.
