A fun light read for escaping life's turmoils. Interesting main characters and keeps your interest. The only negative thing I will say as regards this series of books is that each book is really like a chapter of the other books. Seems they are doing with books these days what they have done to television programs and that is they have taken what should be one (1) book and made it into four books. Yes each individual book sells for less, however to get the full story you have to buy all the books -- I am sorry, well actually not, but I like the full story contained in one book. The splitting of this book into numerous books instead of the one book it should be is very evident and annoying! I am sure they do it for book sales and supposedly lower cost book, but each book is not a complete book. I think it is kind of a cheesy way to sell books and from reviews you can tell that people do not really appreciate it as the story is never fully told, whys and wherefores are missing, each book is incomplete and you feel like you have been pushed off your chair and had the book taken away never to know how it all ends. This series method of selling a book leaves the reader unsatisfied. It would be like going to a restaurant one day and only being allowed to purchase a drink, then you have to come back the next day and get an appetizer, the next day for the salad, the next day for the main course and the next for dessert and yet another for after dinner coffee. That is why the three (3) instead of five (5) stars.

I was glad that the mystery surrounding Tyler was finally solved. But I would have liked to see Thorne brought down, which I didn't think is too much to ask after 4 books. I hate having to wait another year for book 5 to "hopefully" see Thorne brought down & find out if Kevin makes it (although I suspect he does because of the thumb drive). Sorry to be a downer, but I don't like cliff hangers. I do like books that continue with the same characters & watching the development of those characters as they solve mysteries in each book & new mysteries in the next book.

This was better than books 2 and 3, but still too many carry-overs and not nearly enough getting anything solved. They still haven't nailed Thorne, they still do not know about the thumb-drive, and this does not make for a good series, in my opinion. One unanswered thing could carry over to the next book, but this is getting way too drawn out. Give us closure, then give Sam, Jo and the gang another couple of mysteries to solve.

The end of the series???? Four 'books' later, Thorne is still loose, Wyatt smells like a plant, Kevin is near death, Jo is about to adopt Alvin's cat ( maybe?), Sam is still looking into Tyler's activities, the FBI seems to be investigating the department, we still don't know what happened with Sam and Mitch in the past, or if Jo will continue her personal investigation now that she may have a new clue, etc.etc. This isn't a series! It is four big cliffhanger rip-offs!!! I did not expect this kind of crap from Dobbs!!!

This is the fourth book in the Sam Mason series. You should read the previous books [Telling Lies], [Keeping Secrets], and [Exposing Truths] before reading this one.Chief Sam Mason, Sergeant Jody Harris, and Deputy Keith Deckard are still looking for evidence to put developer Lucas Thorne behind bars for drug dealing, but solving the murder of Mayor Dupont takes priority, although officers know he's somehow connected to the death. While they're trying to find out who killed Dupont, the acting mayor, who seems to be worse than Dupont, brings in the County Sheriff, Bev Hatch, to help with the case. Just as the Sam, Jo, and the County Sheriff start working well together, an obnoxious FBI agent shows up out of the blue and he seems to know quite a bit about Sam and Mick's past. Uh oh. Mayor Dupont's murder isn't the only one they need to solve. One of their suspects, Scott Elliott, is missing and is later found in a shallow grave.Deputy Keith Deckard is trying to redeem himself for the things he's done the past year. He now trusts Sam and Jo, so when he receives another anonymous note that wants him to implicate Sam, he tries to do the right thing. We find out why Jo came to White Rock and that she's thinking of making it a permanent move.I'm glad the mystery of who killed Officer Tyler Richardson several months ago is solved and we find out what he was really up to before he was killed, and it's not at all what Sam and Jo thought. I was totally surprised by the revelation of who killed Tyler, Mayor Dupont and Scott Elliott but I don't want to spoil it for anyone.I wasn't expecting what happened to Keith, and wonder if he'll recover. I'm not sure how I feel about the new part-time guy, Wyatt Davis. I have a funny feeling he may not be a good guy. Since Sam and Jo still don't have any evidence against Thorne for the drug ring, and can't pin any of the murders on him I think we'll see more of them soon.Language--moderate cursing but no 'F' bombs.
