The book gleams with crisp full-color watercolor illustrations, and the alligator has just the right touch of scariness. The little boy is obviously a child of the 1980s, with his hot wheels tricycle and robot transformer type toys, but the story is timeless. A very fun book to read. I purchased this for my sister's baby shower, but read it beforehand to a three-year old I babysit from time to time. She loved the illustrations and the story, which was surprising as her attention span is very short. She asked me to read it for her plenty of times even after I gift-wrapped it. My nephew was born last month and my sister claims that her boyfriend reads the book to him when he isn't reading others.

This was a gift to my 5 year old granddaughter. She first got the book out of the school library and she loved the book so much that I decided to buy her a copy of her own. There was a green stuffed toy alligator toy that was a suggested purchase along with the book. I bought the stuffed toy and it was a 5 start hit with her too.

My 3-1/2 year old grandson is a Mercer Mayer addict, and loves this book. I think he likes "Nightmare in my Closet" a little better (although the monsters are scarier than the alligator), if you have to choose, but they are both great, and we've read both of them to him many many times.

This is a great book with great illustrations. My two-year-old loves it. I was suspicious that it might have been contributing to a string of nightmares he was having about "chomp chomps", so we set it aside for a little while. But we will definitely return to it again in the future.

Got it on my daughters request, she wont put it down. lol The condition of the book was new as expected and shipped quickly. -Cheers.

I bought this book for my yet to be born nephew. He's due next month. It'll be a while before he can appreciate the book, but I thought it was cute and, well, there is a kind of family joke that has to do with alligators so it's perfect.But, it also tells a short story of a little boy who figures out a way to show his parents that what he has been telling them is true. Be careful which door you open, you might let the alligator loose.

Such a great book. I was obsessed with this book when I was kid. I remember the trail of candy going down the stairs leading the alligator to the garage. So happy to have bought it again so I can share it with my little one. It's wonderful to be able to share the stories you loved as a child with your own child!

The story is simple: the little boy imagines an alligator lives under his bed, but mom & dad never see it, so he decides to take matters into his own hands and get the alligator out of his room. An imaginative and creative story that makes something potentially "scary" more lighthearted and funny.
